This summer, as part of our Biennial season, we are celebrating all things craft. Throughout August, join us for a series of weekends dedicated to making, music and merriment, with demonstrations, workshops, BBQ, pop-up bar and a live DJ set.

Over the weekend we will have a delicious BBQ and pop-up bar each day in the Courtyard. Alongside this we will also be joined by Luigi’s Italian Street Food, bringing his Artisan Pizzas to Harewood.

Wool Weaving: Birds
Saturday 31 Aug | 11am–3pm | Suitable for ages 4+ | Courtyard Overflow Café
Join our Engagement Team and make your very own colour wool woven birds. Inspired by the natural world around us, learn how to craft beautiful, colour birds using just coloured wool and card.

Flag Making Workshop with Mitch Robinson
Sunday 1 Sep | 10.30am–1pm + 2–4.30pm | Suitable for age 5+ | Courtyard Overflow Café
Be inspired by one of our Harewood Biennial installations – Rebecca Chesney’s Conditions at Present windsock installation – and take part in a workshop making flags of all shapes, sizes and colours from waste tent material sourced from festivals.

Lego Club: Craft Week
Sunday 1 Sep | 11am–3pm | Suitable for all ages | Harewood Suite, Courtyard
Join our ever popular Lego Club for our Make It Harewood special! Do you have any little builders at home? Encourage their creativity with our special Craft themed Lego Club. The Harewood Suite is located upstairs within our Courtyard.

For all workshops and demonstrations, children must be accompanied by an adult.

CRAFT WORKSHOPS

Rosa Harradine: Brush Making Workshop
Saturday 31 Aug | 10.30am–1.30pm | Suitable for age 18+ | Education Suite
Ticket Price: £80 per person
Create/Elevate Artist Rosa Harradine, and learn first hand how she creates her beautiful brushes, which can be seen on display as part of our Biennial Exhibition. Rosa will discuss the techniques and history of brush-making and you will learn how to make three different brushes using tampico, arenga and broomcorn fibres. These will be bound with nylon cord and finished with a cotton strap for hanging. You will have the chance to experiment with different colours and come away with three brushes by the end of the session.

Rosa Harradine: Cobweb Broom Making Workshop
Saturday 31 Aug | 2.30–5.30pm | Suitable for age 18+ | Education Suite
Ticket Price: £80 per person
Join Create/Elevate Artist Rosa Harradine, and discover the craft of cobweb broom making. The cobweb broom is the broom you never knew you needed! Perfect for cobwebs in high-up ceiling corners, but also other hard-to-reach places like underneath the dishwasher, behind the fridge or radiator, in between blinds or on top of curtain rails. You will learn how to make one cobweb broom using broomcorn fibre. A selection of wooden broomsticks and a variety of colours of nylon thread will be provided for you to choose from. You will learn how to sort the broomcorn, prepare the wooden broomstick, weave the stalks onto your broom handle and how to stitch the fibres together.

WALKS + TALKS

Create/Elevate: Objects in Focus
Sat 31 Aug + Sun 1 Sep | 11am + 2pm | Entrance Hall of House
Join our knowledgeable House Team for a free talk about Create/Elevate, the 2024 Harewood Biennial exhibition. Our free talks will focus on different objects and artworks which feature in the exhibition, across the State Floor and Below Stairs of the House.

Make your way to the Entrance Hall ahead of the start time, to find out where talk will be each day. No booking is required.

Rebecca Chesney: Artist Walk + Talk
Sun 1 September | 11am, 12pm, 2pm + 3pm | Meet outside the Courtyard
Join us for a guided walk with Harewood Biennial artist Rebecca Chesney, to visit her installation Conditions at Present, which is installed within the South Park at Harewood. Conditions at Present is an installation of 25 windsocks made from reclaimed fabric from tents salvaged from music festivals. Hear about the inspiration behind the project, the process of gathering the materials and the issues raised by Conditions at Present with this special walk and talk with Rebecca herself.

Rebecca’s Walk + Talk is approx. 45 mins in total.

AFTER HOURS

Meet the Makers: An Evening with Harrogate Tipple
Saturday 31 August | 6–10pm | Suitable for ages 18+
Ticket price: £65
Indulge yourself in an immersive gin tasting experience like no other in the beautiful Harewood Grounds. Harrogate Tipple, purveyors of premium beverages, will take you on an informative guide around the estate where you will discover the true art in the making of this wonderful spirit. On arrival you will be greeted with a welcoming drink on the stunning terrace, then whisked off to Harewood’s historical Still Room to hear about the history of Gin with Tipple’s award winning distiller, Andrea Natiello. We will then meander through Harewood’s Walled Garden, crossing the beautiful lake with India, Harewood’s head gardener, to pick fresh garnishes for your G&T’s. You will be greeted in our Teepee by Founder & Chief Tipple Taster, Steven Green of Harrogate Tipple to hear about the history of their company. Three G&T’s will be served with nibbles as each gin is introduced by Steven.
