The Terrace Gallery is one of Yorkshire’s hidden gems that punches well above its weight and deserves to be part of the Yorkshire Sculpture Triangle"
Madeleine Walton - The State of the Arts
Though the Terrace Gallery was repurposed as a café in 2020, its legacy endures through Harewood’s dynamic contemporary programme.
Today, art is thoughtfully integrated throughout the estate, within the historic rooms of the House, the Church, the Gardens and the surrounding landscape; continuing Harewood’s long tradition of artistic patronage, which dates back to early commissions for Turner and Girtin in the 18th century.
From the arrival of Jacob Epstein’s Adam in the 1970s to the site-specific works seen today, Harewood remains a place where history and contemporary creativity intersect, offering visitors a truly immersive artistic experience.
Madeleine Walton, State of the Arts said on the 25th Anniversary: “The Terrace Gallery is one of Yorkshire’s hidden gems that punches well above its weight and deserves to be part of the Yorkshire Sculpture Triangle: Henry Moore Institute/Leeds Art Gallery; Yorkshire Sculpture Park and The Hepworth Wakefield; these spaces, like The Terrace Gallery, show a variety of art mediums including sculpture. I propose a fourth corner to the triangle of three by adding The Terrace Gallery at Harewood and thereby creating the Yorkshire Art Parallelogram!“
