Reimagining Play
Curated with inclusivity at its core, the new Adventure Playscape at Harewood House invites children of all ages and abilities to learn and play side by side in a space that celebrates imagination, movement and discovery. With an access slide, sensory-rich low-level equipment, and an access swing, every child is empowered to join the fun. We’ve worked closely with Leeds City Council’s Accessibility Officer to thoughtfully shape an immersive and participatory exhibition that welcomes children with visual impairments, ensuring every detail sparks joy, curiosity, confidence and learning through play. This is play without barriers, where every child can feel free, fearless and fully included. Rooted within the landscape, the new participatory play exhibition area uses local timbers, stones and even living willow to create a tactile sensory experience that connects children with nature while encouraging exploration, creativity and outdoor learning. Playful nods to Harewood’s rich history are woven throughout the space, inspiring curiosity and storytelling at every turn. The result is a fun, adventurous and inspiring playscape, thoughtfully curated in harmony with Harewood’s beloved landscape.

Beyond the play area
The new Adventure Playscape is the first phase of our ambitious plans to Reimagine Harewood’s historic landscapes.
We’re working with award-winning designers and architects to create inspiring new spaces around the play area, the Courtyard and South Garden and transform the Bakehouse into a new visitor centre.
Play is at the heart of our vision for Harewood, and we can’t wait to welcome new generations to create memories here.
Reimagining our Landscape
It’s our mission to protect and enhance Harewood House Trust for the benefit of you, our visitors. So from 2023 – 2033 we’ll be Reimagining our Landscape.
