As an independent charity, if you add Gift Aid to your ticket purchase, we’re able to claim an extra 25% of the price from the government, which we use to help maintain Harewood House, Gardens and Grounds.

Each year we need to generate more than £3.5 million to protect and develop the House, Gardens and Grounds and ensure they are accessible to everyone. Harewood House Trust does not receive regular government funding, so every penny generated by ticket sales, memberships and generous donations is reinvested in the conservation of this special place.

With our charitable status, UK taxpayers can further help us care for Harewood by choosing to add Gift Aid.

How Gift Aid works

We offer two sets of tickets:

  1. A standard admission price (without Gift Aid)
  2. A Gift Aid admission, which includes up to a 10% voluntary donation on top of the standard price

If you choose the ticket with the donation and are a UK taxpayer, then we can claim an additional 25% from the government on the whole amount paid, including the 10% donation, because it counts as a charitable donation.

That means your £25.25 Gift Aid ticket is worth £31.56 to Harewood, significantly boosting our income as a charity, and help our House, Grounds and Gardens to thrive for future generations.

How we use Gift Aid donations

Thanks to the generosity of those who chose to Gift Aid their donations last year, we raised a whopping £197,737. Enabling us to make meaningful improvements and offer greater opportunities to our community in 2025.

Improving access across the site

We’ve taken significant steps to make Harewood more accessible for everyone. This includes partnering with Outdoor Mobility to provide all-terrain mobility scooters (also known as Trampers) ensuring more visitors can explore the grounds. We’ve repaired the lift Below Stairs and sourced parts for the State Floor lift, which we aim to have fixed by Christmas. Additionally, we’ve purchased new wheelchairs, available free of charge, to support mobility across the State Floor.

Creating opportunities for others

Our Education team is proud to offer free online workshops on the transatlantic slave trade during Black History Month, helping schools and individuals engage with this important part of Harewood’s history. We’ve also subsidised school trips, making educational visits more accessible, and ensured that essential carers can attend Harewood free of charge.

Supporting our volunteers

With over 200 volunteers contributing more than 20,000 hours annually, Harewood simply couldn’t operate without them. Gift Aid donations help cover volunteer expenses, allowing us to continue welcoming and supporting this incredible team who help keep Harewood open and thriving.

Every Gift Aid donation helps us do more. For our visitors, for our community, and for our future.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
