This room was originally a bedroom but was transformed into a sitting room in the 20th century. In the 1990s, it became a place to showcase the 7th Earl’s collection of 20th century art, ‘with no other scheme in mind other than personal preference’.

The room has continued to reflect the tastes of the current Earl and Countess ever since. Today, it contains a range of works acquired by the 8th Earl and Countess, as well as some of their favourite pieces from the wider collection.

Lord and Lady Harewood have spent their lives working in the arts. David Lascelles is a film producer and his BAFTA, won for the TV series Inspector Morse, can be seen in the Chippendale cabinet. Diane Howse is an artist and curator and founded the Terrace Gallery at Harewood in 1989 – the first contemporary art space in an English country house.
