Bring a fascinating, national link to the Transatlantic Slave Trade into your classroom with our Online Transatlantic Slave Trade workshop.

Our friendly and knowledgeable team will guide your class through Harewood’s challenging past, introducing them to important characters from Harewood’s story and explaining the Lascelles’ involvement in the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

Your students will also gain an understanding of life on a sugar plantation and will use a document from our archive to uncover stories of resilience and bravery of the enslaved people that worked on the Lascelles’ plantations.

The session is fully interactive and educators will be provided with learning resources and a session plan prior to the session.

Important Information:

  • This workshop requires resources to be printed in advance.
  • This workshop is designed to be run from classrooms and is not currently bookable for pupils learning from home.
  • Due to the sensitive and complex nature of the topic we strongly recommend that the children are already studying the topic or have a good foundation of knowledge before booking the workshop. The session is focused on Harewood’s links to the Transatlantic Slave Trade, and in the limited time that we have, we cannot teach this in addition to what the Transatlantic Slave Trade was and its global context.

Capacity: Up to 3 classes of 30 pupils
