This games table was designed for playing dominoes, a game that is an intrinsic part of Jamaican culture.

The work was created in response to the Cinnamon Drawing Room at Harewood House, a historic space designed for entertaining, which often included playing games. With Open Code, Collins looked to celebrate a positive Black narrative within a historically inaccessible environment, positioning the domino table in direct contrast to portraits of the Lascelles family. It represents a corrective act of representation and conveys the permanence and prominence of Caribbean influence on British society.

Open Code was commissioned for the 2022 Harewood Craft Biennial, Radical Acts. It was purchased with a generous grant from the V&A Purchase Grant and the Art Fund in 2023 and is now part of Harewood’s permanent collection.
