We’re looking for someone to join our Collections Care team, supporting with the day-to-day upkeep of Harewood’s public and store areas. You’ll learn new skills in preventative and remedial conservation of our varied Designated collection, working closely with the wider team to care for this nationally significant collection of art, furniture and objects.

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE
To ensure the public and store areas of Harewood House are kept to the highest standards of preventative conservation following Museums Accreditation standards of care and presentation.

Collections care
Under the direction of the Senior Collections & Conservation Officer, deliver the annual schedule for the cleaning and preservation of collections objects and historic interiors both on public display and in store.

Be pro-active in ensuring high standards of collections care and presentation are
maintained in all areas.

Help to plan and deliver cleaning schedules for stores and objects.

Under the direction of the Senior Collections & Conservation Officer, prepare house
interiors and safeguard collections objects for exhibitions, events and other activities.

Be part of a rota to monitor the running of events, functions and filming in the house with the purpose of safeguarding the interiors and collections.

Work to ensure COSHH guidelines and risk assessments are up-to-date and appropriate for our activities.

Under the direction of the Collections Manager and Registrar be part of a regular program of reviewing and updating the COSHH and Health and Safety files.

Work with the Collections team to plan and deliver ‘Conservation in Action’ projects and actively engage with the general public to promote understanding of conservation
practices and activities.

Engage with our visitors and make the collections accessible by contributing social media posts and blogs about collections care.

Work alongside volunteers and take a lead role to ensure good working practices are
followed, workplace safety is observed and that museum accreditation standards are
maintained.

To deliver departmental projects you may be required to take a team leader role and co-ordinate a group of volunteers.

Use the collections management system (MuseumPlus) to help maintain an accurate
record of object locations; to keep a record of cleaning activities; and to monitor and
document object conditions. Prior experience using a collections management system is not a requirement.

Under the direction of the Senior Collections & Conservation Officer, support with the
development and delivery of discrete conservation and documentation projects.

Under the direction of the Senior Collections & Conservation Officer, assist with the
installation and de-installation of exhibitions as required.

Support with environmental and pest monitoring in the House, reporting to the Senior Collections & Conservation Officer.

Support with the weekly clock winding as and when required.

Special Conditions
This is a physically demanding role, and you must be able to use steps, ladders and scaffold tower.

You will be required to work outside normal hours including evenings, weekends and bank holidays for events, functions or filming.
