With over 140 acres of stunning gardens, woodlands, and parkland, Harewood offers a rich outdoor experience like no other.

Our historic gardens and grounds boast an impressive collection of plants from around the world, reflecting a dazzling variety of styles.

From the formal Terrace, with its elegant fountains, topiary, and vibrant flower borders, to the traditional Walled Garden, where vegetables, herbs, fruit, and flowers flourish, there’s something for every garden lover.

In the Lakeside Woodland Gardens, a waterfall cascades into the Himalayan Garden, alive with rhododendrons, primulas, and exotic plants.

All of this is set against the romantic backdrop of the landscape created by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown in the 18th century.

Whatever the season, Harewood’s breathtaking views will captivate you.

One path plots the route from the car park, across the North Front path to All Saints' Church and Woodland Wonderland then through the East Garden. This is where the second walk begins, across the Terrace, down past the Archery Border and around Sunsides leading out past the Courtyard. The third walk begins at the Car Park, past the Adventure Playground and Courtyard, down the Lakeside Woodland Garden path, around the Himalayan Garden, round the lake to the Bothy and Walled Garden. The walks can be done in succession and are all circular.

Our Head Gardener, Trevor Nicholson, now in his 30th year at Harewood, oversees the planting, maintenance and conservation of Harewood’s award-winning gardens and grounds.

Trevor and his devoted team of staff and volunteers work to a carefully planned programme of maintenance and improvement projects. Their hard work ensures Harewood remains a must-visit destination for garden lovers.

Family Fun

For families, the Adventure Playground offers thrills and excitement, with picnic areas, a café, and ice cream kiosk close by.

Take a stroll across the North Front to visit the Woodland Wonderland next to All Saints Church. Or explore the enchanting magic of our amazing Sylvascope treehouse!

Help protect our landscape

Caring for our landscape isn’t just about offering stunning, contemporary Gardens for visitors to enjoy; it’s also about boosting biodiversity at Harewood. By planting species that provide excellent habitats, we’re creating a haven for birds, insects, and other wildlife.

Each year the charity needs to generate more than £3.5 million from earned income, grants and donations to protect and develop the house, gardens and grounds and to ensure they are accessible to everyone.
