Help share the future of Harewood. Inspire generosity and make a lasting difference. The Head of Development is a key role at Harewood, building relationships, partnerships and sustainable income to support our future for generations to come.

At Harewood House Trust, we believe heritage has the power to connect people, challenge perspectives and inspire future generations. We are looking for an ambitious and collaborative Head of Development to help us turn that belief into lasting impact.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead and grow fundraising at one of England’s finest historic houses, building the relationships, partnerships and sustainable income that will support our future.
An opportunity to make a difference
As Head of Development, you will lead Harewood’s fundraising strategy, growing income and strengthening the relationships that will help secure our long-term future.
Working closely with the CEO, Deputy CEO, Senior Management Team and Board, you will develop a diverse and ambitious programme spanning trusts and foundations, public funding, major donors, individual giving, Patrons, legacies and
corporate partnerships.
A key focus will be Reimagining Harewood, our major initiative to transform the visitor experience, improve accessibility and interpretation, enhance biodiversity and restore our historic landscape. You will play an important role in supporting the capital fundraising campaign, working alongside a specialist fundraising consultant while ensuring that the opportunities created translate into lasting relationships and sustainable income for the Trust.
This is a role for someone who can think strategically, build authentic relationships and turn ambitious ideas into tangible results. You will have the opportunity to shape the development function, strengthen fundraising systems and processes, and lead and support our Fundraising Executive.
About you
You are an experienced fundraising professional with a track record of securing significant funding and developing successful, multi-strand fundraising programmes. You understand how to build a strong prospect pipeline, develop compelling cases for support and cultivate relationships that inspire long-term commitment.
Confident working with senior leaders, trustees, donors and external partners, you bring sound financial and strategic judgement alongside excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
You are collaborative and entrepreneurial, comfortable taking ownership while working constructively with specialist advisers and colleagues. You can balance the detail of applications, reporting and stewardship with the bigger picture of organisational ambition and financial sustainability.
You will bring:
  • Significant fundraising experience within a charity or not-for-profit organisation.
  • Experience of developing and delivering fundraising strategies, setting income targets and monitoring performance.
  • Experience contributing significantly to capital fundraising, including major gift cultivation, campaign planning and prospect management.
  • A strong track record of securing funding through trusts and foundations, public funders and/or major donors.
  • Excellent written communication, relationship management and project-management skills.
  • Financial confidence and the ability to manage fundraising pipelines, forecasts and reporting.
  • A collaborative, proactive approach and a genuine commitment to Harewood’s charitable purpose.
Experience of Heritage Fund projects, major capital campaigns, or fundraising within the heritage or arts and culture sectors would be an advantage.
Why join Harewood?
At Harewood, you will join a team committed to caring for an extraordinary place while reimagining what it can mean to people today and in the future.
You will have the opportunity to:
  • Lead and shape a growing, multi-strand fundraising programme.
  • Help deliver a transformational capital campaign.
  • Build meaningful relationships with donors, funders and partners.
  • Contribute to organisational strategy as a member of the Senior Management Team.
  • Help create a more inclusive, accessible and environmentally sustainable future for Harewood.
We particularly encourage applications from people of African or Caribbean heritage and people of South Asian heritage, who are currently under-represented within Harewood House Trust.
Ready to help shape Harewood’s future?
If you are an ambitious fundraiser who wants to build lasting relationships, grow sustainable income and make a meaningful difference, we would love to hear from you.
