Every autumn more than 30 tons of leaves are collected by the grounds staff. This enormous pile is composted down into leaf mould and used in the gardens.
There are over 100 acres of gardens at Harewood. They are full of variety, with plants from all over the world. All this in the setting of a magnificent landscape created by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown.
Harewood’s Head Gardener, Trevor Nicholson, oversees the award winning landscape. Trevor aims “to put Harewood at the top of the list as a place for garden-lovers to visit.” He manages projects on the dazzling range of gardens at Harewood, including the Terrace, the Lakeside Garden, the Himalayan Garden and the Walled Garden.

Children will enjoy the excitement and thrills of the Adventure Playground with its slides, swings and climbing frames – all with the café, picnic areas, ice cream kiosk and toilets close by. Take a stroll on the North Front and visit the Woodland Wonderland next to All Saints Church, and the amazing Sylvascope treehouse!

Between April and October over 5,000 hours are spent cutting the grass in the Gardens and Park.
The total length of the box hedging on the parterre is 1.2 miles and is made up of 30,000 individual plants.
Over £900 is spent on seed alone and £2,500 on potting compost.
