Sunday 1 September 2024
11am – 3.45pm
Weather permitting

As part of our Make It Harewood: Summer of Craft events, join us for a guided walk with Harewood Biennial artist Rebecca Chesney, to visit her installation Conditions at Present, which is installed within the South Park at Harewood.

Conditions at Present is an installation of 25 windsocks made from reclaimed fabric from tents salvaged from music festivals. Tents provide shelter in times of crisis or displacement. They can perform a very different role at music festivals where cheap tents are often discarded by their temporary inhabitants. Chesney asks us to consider the environmental impacts that produced tents so cheaply. Conditions at Present is a co-commission with the British Textile Biennial, in collaboration with FWRD (Festival Waste Reclamation and Distribution).

Hear about the inspiration behind the project, the process of gathering the materials and the issues raised by Conditions at Present with this special walk and talk with Rebecca herself.
