This Christmas, step into a magical festive world where history and imagination meet, in the long-awaited sequel to 2019’s award-winning ‘Night at the Mansion’.

A troop of not-so-angelic cherubs have escaped from the Christmas tree and Harewood House sparkles into life with singing baubles, swirling ceilings and gossiping statues. Marvel as the House tells you festive tales of bygone times, in an unforgettable experience that will delight visitors of all ages.

Mischief at the Mansion is brought to Harewood by Studio McGuire. Davy and Kristin McGuire are multi-award winning, Yorkshire-based, mixed reality artists, internationally renowned for their innovative explorations in immersive art, storytelling and digital projections. Their 2019 show ‘Night at the Mansion’ won widespread acclaim including Innovation of the Year at the Museum and Heritage Awards, and Harewood’s Members will be delighted to know that the talking plates are back!

Please note that a car parking pass is needed when travelling by car to visit this exhibition. A £5 car parking pass can be pre-booked online or purchased at our entrance gate subject to availability.

Harewood's Collections

If you’re hoping to view Harewood’s iconic collection of paintings, ceramics and furniture, we recommend postponing your visit until the festive season has come to a close.

The cherubs have taken over the House with Christmas magic, so it’s best you wait until March when Harewood returns to normal!

Access information

We’re committed to making Mischief at the Mansion as accessible as possible for all visitors. Please read the following information about access routes and facilities:

Wheelchair Access

Unfortunately, the wheelchair lift in the lower part of the House (Below Stairs) is currently out of service. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

• State Floor Access: The State Floor is wheelchair accessible via the front of the House. Please note the wheelchair lift has a weight limit of 300KG, and the step ramp has a capacity of 200KG. Our Visitor Experience team is on hand to assist.
• Below Stairs Alternative Route: While the lift Below Stairs is out of service, an alternative, slightly longer route is available. This route offers the chance to enjoy stunning views of the Terrace along the way.

Accessing the Christmas Shop and Hidden Angels

• Christmas Shop: Located in the Old Kitchen, access is via the South West Door.
• Hidden Angels:
  • One angel can be found via the Terrace Café.
  • Two more playful cherubs are tucked away in the Servant’s Quarters, accessible through the same route. Please ask the Harewood team in the Terrace cafe for access through the door to Below Stairs.

Talking Cakes Installation

The Talking Cakes installation, a whimsical Beauty Pageant-style Bake Off audio experience, is located in the Servant’s Hall, which is down a set of stairs. However, the door to the room will remain open so wheelchair users can enjoy the audio from the entrance.

The Talking Cakes has been recorded and can be seen on YouTube with closed captions, or from an iPad in the Entrance Hall. Please ask a member of staff if you’d like to watch it.
