Join G . F Smith for an introduction to the possibilities of paper with Josh Williams, their Yorkshire based Paper Consultant. Learn more about specialist papers and explore the collection of materials to inspire your future creative projects.

Obsessed with the beauty and possibility of paper, G . F Smith is the UK’s largest specialist paper company, and the dedicated supplier of creative papers to the creative industries. The company was founded in London in 1885 by globe-trotting stationery salesman George Frederick Smith. Over the following century, George’s paper merchants built a reputation for quality and service, and became renowned as passionate pioneers of the paper industry. Today, G . F Smith serves as a dedicated partner to artists, designers and creative institutions seeking to impress and inspire their audiences.

Colorplan remains one of G . F Smith’s most extraordinary achievements in paper making. Over the last 80 years, it has continually refined and evolved the range, which now spans 55 colours, 25 embossings and 10 weights – all made sustainably in Britain and available worldwide. As the brand behind the world-leading family of coloured papers, G . F Smith has spent decades thinking about colour – what it can signify, the ideas it invokes and how it makes us feel.

Sun 1 September | 11am, 12pm, 2pm + 3pm | Meet outside the Courtyard

Join us for a guided walk with Harewood Biennial artist Rebecca Chesney, to visit her installation Conditions at Present, which is installed within the South Park at Harewood.

Conditions at Present is an installation of 25 windsocks made from reclaimed fabric from tents salvaged from music festivals. Tents provide shelter in times of crisis or displacement. They can perform a very different role at music festivals where cheap tents are often discarded by their temporary inhabitants. Chesney asks us to consider the environmental impacts that produced tents so cheaply. Conditions at Present is a co-commission with the British Textile Biennial, in collaboration with FWRD (Festival Waste Reclamation and Distribution).

Rebecca Chesney is a Preston based artist whose work explores the politics, ownership and value of land and the impact of human activity on the natural environment.

Hear about the inspiration behind the project, the process of gathering the materials and the issues raised by Conditions at Present with this special walk and talk with Rebecca herself.

Rebecca’s Walk + Talk is approx. 45 mins in total.

Rebecca Chesney’s Artist Walk + Talk is free, however booking is advised. Please click here to reserve your place.
