Join us for a right Royal workshop and learn more about Princess Mary and Harewood’s time as a Royal Household.
Your pupils will be offered a fascinating insight into Harewood’s history as we explore how it was transformed into a Royal Household after Princess Mary married the 6th Earl of Harewood in 1922. In this session we will explore how she was related to the Royal family and the changes she made to update the House to ensure it was fit for her status.
Each session is led by an experienced Learning Facilitator who will provide an opportunity for pupils to learn about Princess Mary using the House, its collection and archival material as primary sources.
Your pupils will take part in an interactive tour of the House, focussing on objects that link to the Princess, her time at the House and the changes that she made. Pupils will understand her role as the Yorkshire Princess and her relationship with the wider Royal Family.
Pupils will recognise the significant contributions that Princess Mary made to the war efforts through an activity inspired by the Princess Mary Gift Box, a scheme that she championed and which was intended to be distributed to all members of the armed forces of the British Empire in recognition of their service. Princess Mary was a strong wartime leader and an excellent advocate for the contribution of women during wartime and beyond.
If your pupils are studying the Word Wars you may wish to add our exchange one of these sessions for one of the Harewood at War! sessions.
More information on this session can be found here. Please contact our Learning Team if this is something that you would like to discuss.
Timings for all sessions are flexible and can be tailored to suit KS1 and KS2 pupils.
The session runs as two parallel activities by dividing your group in half, switching over activities at approximately 11.00am. Both sessions are guided by a Learning Facilitator giving your pupils all that they need whilst enabling them to explore for themselves.
