Discover the stories of Harewood’s Anglo-Saxon past in our inspiring, character-led workshop.

Your pupils will be transported back in time to the year 1065, a year before the Norman invasion, where they will meet the three Saxon chieftains still living on Harewood land – Tor, Sprot and Grim.

Based on evidence taken from the famous Domesday book, children will learn the chieftains’ fascinating story and will be given a taste of Anglo-Saxon life in 11th Century Yorkshire.

Pupils will become part of Tor, Sprot or Grim’s tribe for the day. Through this, they will learn about Saxon art + culture, Britain’s conversion to Christianity and will try their luck as a Saxon warrior. Pupils will also be given the opportunity to use their problem solving skills to plan a new settlement – a helpful skill when there could be a new king any day now!

Timings + Prices

Timings for all sessions are flexible and can be tailored to suit KS2 pupils.

The session runs several activities throughout the day by dividing your group in 3 groups of 10. Each activity is guided by a Learning Facilitator (or Anglo-Saxon) giving your pupils all that they need whilst enabling them to explore for themselves.
