Hew Locke

Souvenir 6 (Princess Alexandra) by Hew Locke is a souvenir bust with collages of jewels, textile lace and cowrie shells. It’s reminiscent of Parian ware busts of members of the British royal family that were popularised in the 1850s, a collectable item for middle-class Victorians. Hew has embellished the bust to explore the interwoven stories and legacies of mercantile power, Empire, and cross-cultural exchanges throughout history.
