Long Live The Christmas Tree! will feature 11 artists and makers from across Yorkshire and beyond, bringing a contemporary festive twist to the State Floor, creating trees (and ‘trees’) inspired by the natural world, winter rituals and Harewood itself. Long Live the Christmas Tree! will conjure the playfulness, joy and warmth of the season.

Founded by Anna Potter, Sheffield-based floral artists Swallows and Damsons bring an unexpected and uniquely wild feel to floristry and have worked on a number of international projects from their flower shop at the heart of their local community.

London based Phoebe McElhatton works across sculpture and design using a variety of mixed media materials including clay, plaster, Jesmonite and wax.

Meriel Hunt is a set designer and art director from Wales. Her experience, spanning work as varied as local community folk exhibitions and luxury fashion events, has shaped her design philosophy and unique style admired by a similarly eclectic group of clients and collaborators.

Andy Singleton is a paper artist and illustrator based in Wakefield. His work is an exploration of the natural and manmade world through intricate paper cuttings, paper sculpture, hand drawn illustrations and large scale installations.

Ashley Karrell is an award-winning artist, whose work spans across film, photography, theatre and visual art with a career spanning over 20 years. His name is well known for the film and documentary of Geraldine Connor’s epic masterpiece Carnival Messiah, which was performed at Harewood in 2007.

Beverly-based family business Galvin Brothers design and manufacture thoughtful furniture using the best quality timbers, revisiting traditional techniques in modern ways.
A striking tree gathered from Harewood’s grounds
Simon Costin, Artistic Director of Harewood’s 2018 Christmas, works internationally as an Art Director and curator. His work has been displayed in many exhibitions from Argyll to the ICA in London to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Opera North is the national opera company for the North of England, that creates extraordinary experiences every day, using music to entertain, engage, challenge and inspire. Martin Green is a multi-award winning musician and Ivor Novello winning composer.
Be inspired by Carnival and celebrate one love
Leeds based costume designer Hughbon Condor is an internationally-respected carnival costume designer with over 45 years’ experience. He has been closely associated with Leeds West Indian Carnival for many years and has participated in a number of international carnival events.
Burnished copper branches and sparkling crystals
Copper artist Yasemen Hussein sculpts intricate coppers pieces from her converted stable house in south London. Yasemen’s pieces range from light fittings and interior centrepieces for large- scale displays to wearable stageware for Katy Perry, Will.i.am and the Spice Girls.
