11am – 4pm
Join us this autumn and make a stags head completely out of willow, with no metal frame. An ideal decoration for all year around and a fun way to learn a new traditional skill. Suitable for beginners. Willow weaver Leilah Vyner will teach you the art of creating sculpture from willow rods and the random weave we use to make large and small sculptures.
Please make your way to the entrance to the Courtyard on arrival at Harewood, where a member of staff will be there to greet you.
All the tools are provided for the day, you can bring an apron if you want to protect your clothing.
Refreshments and lunch will be provided on the day. Please notify us upon booking of any dietary requirements you may have.
This workshop is suitable for beginners or people who have tried willow before and want to try something different. No prior experience is needed. Please note that people with severe Arthritis in their hands will find the activity painful.
Leilah Vyner is a full-time willow weaver based just outside Tadcaster, with her business Dragon Willow. She makes willow baskets, sculptures, fences, coffins and much more and has sculptures exhibited all around the world.
Last year Leilah showed her sculptures at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and you can see examples of her work in venues nationally, and more locally in Harrogate’s Valley Gardens, York’s Holmestead Park and the Kilnsey Park Estate Near Grassington.
Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, we have had to put some extra measures in place for our workshops, in line with the current government guidelines:
