Saturday 17 September 2022
6.15pm – 9.15pm

Join us for a tranquil evening of fresh air and soothing sound at the heart of the Harewood Estate.

Harewood’s Himalayan Garden is a haven of beauty and tranquillity at the heart of the Harewood Estate. The garden is home to the Harewood Stupa, a Buddhist monument built in 2004 by monks from the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan. Bhutan is known as the Kingdom of Happiness and is well-known for its philosophy of Gross National Happiness, split into 9 domains including psychological well-being and health to measure the collective happiness and well-being of the population.

Inspired by our stupa and its spiritual home, this evening retreat offers an opportunity to connect with nature and enjoy soothing sound to support your psychological wellbeing and help bring you to a state of contentment and happiness.

What's included?

Nature walk through the Himalayan Gardens to the Stupa.

The evening will begin with a tranquil walk through our beautiful Himalayan Gardens. In the summer months, the gardens are at their peak, full of the sounds and sights of nature and adorned with the beauty of blue poppies, orchids, cobra lilies, primulas and over 50 types of rhododendron. During our walk you will be encouraged to listen to the sounds of nature around you and also to pick up something which catches your eye, such as a fallen leaf or flower, to leave as an offering at the stupa. On arrival, we will circumambulate the stupa clockwise, silently absorbed in the sounds and sights around us. Following the circumambulation we will leave our offerings, pause for a quiet moment and then continue our nature walk around the lakeside and back to the Arch Barn.
