10am – 2pm
Join our Senior Garden Team for a morning of fruit tree pruning in our wonderful orchard. All our heritage trees are field-grown standing trees grown in the traditional orchard form.
You will start by learning about the tree varieties here at Harewood, what makes them special and how they are grown. We will cover the basics of genetics, fruit production, grafting, harvesting and the theories behind specialist tree forms.
After a tool demonstration you will have a chance to get stuck in yourselves. We will be focusing on the why, when, where and how of pruning techniques, maintenance and growth restriction and covering wound care and what diseases to look out for.
No previous gardening experience is needed to attend as this will be an opportunity to learn from the experts and give you the confidence to have a go in your own garden. All materials and tools are provided. The morning culminates in a hearty seasonal lunch served at the Terrace Tearooms
Please be aware this event takes place outdoors. As the saying goes, ‘there is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes’ – please come dressed appropriately.
Access to Harewood’s Grounds & Gardens are included in this ticket.
Bookings can be made online, or alternatively please contact our Visitor Experience Team on 0113 218 1000 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
