Thomas Chippendale is Britain’s greatest and most famous furniture maker. Harewood House represents his largest and most lucrative commission and is today home to one of the most significant collections of Chippendale furniture in the world. Join our Assistant Curator for an in-depth tour of his work across the State Floor, considering Chippendale’s role not only as an outstanding furniture designer and maker, but also his wider skills as a decorator and upholder. The tour will offer an opportunity to hop over the ropes and experience some of Chippendale’s masterpieces up-close, including the exceptional Diana and Minerva commode and State Bed, as well as rarely displayed archival material such as Chippendale’s bills and the Lascelles family’s recently returned copy of the Director.
