COVID-19 and your visit to Harewood

20 March 2020

A message to our visitors and Members regarding Coronavirus, COVID-19 and visiting Harewood

Harewood takes the health and wellbeing of our Members, visitors, volunteers and staff very seriously. With over 120 acres, including gardens and a lakeside walk, we believe we can offer an uplifting environment for visitors to enjoy at this time. We would like to re-assure you that we are taking every step we can to ensure a safe visit here to Harewood, and we are following industry and government updates daily regarding the operation of this site as a much-loved place for a great day out and more.

Harewood’s Grounds, Gardens and Bird Garden are open.

The House, shop and any indoor spaces are closed. The food offering is a take-out service and we are running a cashless operation.

Please note the following changes which will impact on your visit.

  • The House will unfortunately be closed, however the Gardens, Bird Garden and Grounds will remain open.
  • Workshops, tours and special events are cancelled or postponed until after Monday 1 June. You will be contacted if you have bought tickets to any of the events affected.
  • Our catering facilities have been reduced to ensure we do not have people gathering in small spaces. The Courtyard Café servery will be open and will offer a grab and go service of take away items to enjoy outdoors in the Courtyard or at our picnic benches across the site. The Kiosk will also offer additional grab and go food items. Afternoon Tea in the Billiard Room has been cancelled until further notice and the Terrace Tearoom will not be open.
  • Our site will be entirely cashless for the foreseeable future. You should ensure that you bring card or contactless payment with you which you can use at all of our entry, retail and catering points.
  • The Ferry, Shuttle and ‘Capability’ Boat will not be running, and the Curiosity Cabin, Bookshop and Bothy will be closed.

You can help us on your visit by ensuring you wash your hands thoroughly at one of many locations across site, clearing your own waste in any of our food and drink areas (especially tissues and napkins), and bringing hand sanitiser or antibacterial wipes with you for when you are outdoors, particularly for children using the playground area.

Should government recommendations or legislation advise that Harewood should close or radically reduce its operation, the Trust will automatically extend Memberships for any period of time that our Members are unable to access the site. We will also contact advance ticket buyers with the option to postpone or cancel their visit.

The support Harewood receives from its Members and visitors is incredibly valuable to the Trust, and we thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time for us all.

If you are a Harewood Member, do make sure that we have your email address so that we can send you updates as and when they happen. If you do not currently receive the Member e-newsletter, please email membership@harewood.org and we will ensure you are added to the list. Having your e-mail address is the quickest possible way we can keep you informed.
