‘We had a wonderful day that far exceeded our expectations. The workshop was excellent – the children were engaged throughout and thoroughly enjoyed every minute.’

Teacher, St Paul’s Primary School, Leeds

Our primary sessions at Harewood extend to all areas of the site including the House, Bird Garden and Grounds and Gardens and include tours and workshops.  Most of our workshops are based outdoors with wet weather options and are available all year round.

Bird Garden & House Tours

Our tours in the Bird Garden cover topics from adaptation to life cycles and habitats and are delivered by our bird keeping team.

Our House tours give an introduction to the changing history of Harewood, its stories and secret nooks and crannies.  We can offer focused history tours such as ‘Harewood and the Slave Trade’, ‘Harewood in Wartime’ or art-based tours such as ‘Portraits and Characters’, all led by our expert house guides.

Special Workshops

We have a changing programme of exhibitions throughout the year, with an accompanying programme of school sessions. Craftsmanship and beautiful objects are all around us at Harewood and craft is a huge part of our history and our future. Our special sessions explore craft and other themes important to us, such as well-being and connecting with nature. Children and young people are able to make alongside professional artists, designers and other specialists.

Self-guided Visits

Groups are welcome to visit Harewood and explore at their leisure.  We offer discounted admission tickets for all educational groups larger than ten pupils.  SEND groups are admitted without a minimum number and Under 4s are free of charge.  Self-guided groups have full access to Harewood House, Grounds and Gardens, including our chain ferry across the lake, Adventure Playground and Curiosity Cabin.  Downloadable trails are available to use and our learning team can support you with planning.

If you would like exclusive use of the Curiosity Cabin for your visit, this can be arranged for a £30 booking fee.

We provide two complimentary staff tickets with every booking so teachers can visit prior to their trip.

If there is something that you would like to cover that you cannot find here, please let us know as we are always happy to discuss your ideas.
