‘We had a wonderful day that far exceeded our expectations. The workshop was excellent – the children were engaged throughout and thoroughly enjoyed every minute.’

Teacher, St Paul’s Primary School, Leeds

Our primary sessions at Harewood extend to all areas of the site including the House, Bird Garden and Grounds and Gardens and include tours and workshops.  Most of our workshops are based outdoors with wet weather options and are available all year round.

Bird Garden & House Tours

Our tours in the Bird Garden cover topics from adaptation to life cycles and habitats and are delivered by our bird keeping team.

Our House tours give an introduction to the changing history of Harewood, its stories and secret nooks and crannies.  We can offer focused history tours such as ‘Harewood and the Slave Trade’, ‘Harewood in Wartime’ or art-based tours such as ‘Portraits and Characters’, all led by our expert house guides.

Craft Workshops

Craftsmanship and beautiful objects are all around us at Harewood.  Craft is a huge part of our history and our future. Our craft-focused sessions give children and young people a taste for making alongside professional artists and designers.

Crafting Patterns

Working with artist Harriet Lawton to explore the collections, gardens and birds of Harewood House through the eyes of a designer.  We will gather inspiration from across Harewood to create our own designs in a range of media including print-making and textiles.

This is a practical day for pupils to be inspired, learn new skills and enjoy a process of making which can be developed back in school.

All materials are included but feel free to bring your own sketchbooks.
