One of a set of fifteen open armchairs by Thomas Chippendale.
Originally part of a set of 18, the chairs were japanned green and gold and made for the Music Room, c1770. Eleven of the set are now painted and gilded white and gold. They have cartouche-shaped backs and serpentine seats covered in striped chenille, the moulded fluted frames with anthemion crestings, scrolled arm-supports and tapering fluted legs, redecorated.
