In recent years great emphasis has been placed on the creation of new habitat for game and wildlife. Our experienced team look after all matters relating to game conservation, predator control as well as habitat management for wildlife and fish. The shoots are controlled and managed and habitat improvement is constantly reviewed.
The carefully balanced management of special projects has produced notable successes. Joint initiatives with Natural England, Yorkshire Water and the RSPB have seen the reintroduction of Red Kites into Yorkshire’s countryside.
There is a healthy population of wild mammals such as red deer, roe deer, fallow deer, hare, foxes and badgers. The diversity of these species is most welcome and we hope that it will continue to grow.
The Estate has created wetland habitats (both ponds and marsh) providing the perfect environment for marshy grasses, rushes and other green plant life to grow. We have been delighted with the results and the pond now has excellent rushes and wetland grasses. This has produced more covered habitats supporting wild birds nesting on the Estate.
