The fantastic Ann and her son George, are part of Team Macmillan at this year’s Brownlee Tri:

1. Have you done a triathlon before?
No, we haven’t. George has applied to do the London Triathlon in August as part of Team Macmillan, but up to now neither of us have done a triathlon.

2. Why are you participating in this event?
As a family, we are members of a local running club and regularly take part in local races. This year we’ve got more adventurous (or stupid) and started triathlon training and open water swimming. I’m loving it, especially as I’m doing it with my son who in not very long will be off to uni! He’s obsessed by the Brownlee brothers and all that they have achieved, so entering this event was essential. When we saw we could combine that with fundraising for Macmillan, it was extra special.

3. How have you been affected by cancer?
George’s Grandma (my step mum) died a few years ago and was nursed by Macmillan nurses. The main reason for raising funds for Macmillan is to make sure that everyone who is touched by cancer, whether personally or a family member, can have a Macmillan nurse to turn to. I am raising funds for Macmillan as part of a number of charity activities in school where I work. We are having our own race for life (for Cancer Research), bag packing (for Teenage Cancer Trust) and Mega Cake Bake Week (for Macmillan).

Many thanks,
The Brownlee Tri Team
