Spectacular plans for celebrating the Girlguiding UK Centenary in 2010!
Taking place at Harewood over the summer this year, an exclusive Centenary Camp will be home to around 5000 UK Guides and 2000 international guests for a week of activities and events.
With the chance for the Guides to take part in inspirational opening and closing ceremonies, a one-day spectacular 'Fusion' and four days of activities covering every aspect of the Guide programme, the Girlguiding UK Centenary Camp promises to be an international camp like no other!
The camp will be held here at Harewood House between 31 July and 7 August 2010. Harewood House is the former home of HRH Princess Mary, The Princess Royal, who became President of The Girl Guide Association in 1920.
Today the former Housekeeper’s Room is a permanent display of her life and work. As part of the Girl Guiding Centenary celebrations at Harewood in 2010 these rooms will be re-displayed to reflect Princess Mary's involvement in the Girl Guide movement. A short film of period footage will show scenes from Princess Mary's life.
Children’s trails and a pre-bookable group tour will also be available this season ahead of the celebrations.
Harewood House will be closed to the public on Wednesday 4 August 2010 so will offer a secure space for girls to explore in small groups and enjoy the entertainment and activities on offer.
