Monday 11 December 2017
11am – 12.15pm
Join John Samuel from Ilkley Toy Museum for refreshments and a short presentation of how the museum collection came to be formed. Then join him as we tour the House looking at the various toys on loan, and hear some in depth detail and history of the exhibits. Find out about Sophie and Validimir’s links to Queen Victoria and the Russian Royal family, and who Mrs Kendall of Mrs Kendall’s Toy Shop really was!
Ilkley Toy Museum contains one of the finest private collections of toys in the country.
Dating from 4th century BC to the present day, the exhibits feature dolls, dolls houses, teddy bears, tinplate toys, wooden and paper toys and a 1950’s working model fairground. The museum has a particularly fine collection of early English wooden dolls.
Open to the public since 2002, we welcome visitors of all ages on a journey back to their childhood. Hundreds of children from around the region take part in our educational sessions each year.
Old or young there’s something for everyone at Ilkley Toy Museum.
Please make your way to the Below Stairs Entrance on arrival for the start of the talk.
