Home to the Lascelles family for more than 200 years, the House is still lived
in by the present Earl and Countess of Harewood. The 2010 exhibitions season at Harewood will celebrate the 21st birthday of the Terrace Gallery and over 250 years of innovation.
On the State Floor you will see exquisite interiors designed for the House by Scottish designer Robert Adam alongside furniture by his contemporary Thomas Chippendale who was born in nearby Otley. For those with an interest in art, Harewood has a collection ranging from Italian Renaissance masterpieces by such artists as Veronese, Titian, Bellini and El Greco through Turner watercolours and portraits by Joshua Reynolds to works by Picasso and Epstein.
In the newly re-displayed Below Stairs Experience you are taken back to Victorian and Edwardian days in the restored Old Kitchen, Servants Hall and Still Room, discovering how the servants lived, worked and serviced this great Yorkshire Country House.
Lord Harewood’s mother, HRH Princess Mary, the Princess Royal, lived at Harewood from 1930 to 1965 so don’t miss the rooms dedicated to her life here, including her wedding dress and bouquet along with family photograph albums for you to browse through.
