The Harewood House Trust is an educational charitable trust that relies entirely on its own endeavours to meet its funding needs. Volunteers make a significant contribution in enabling the Trust to deliver a first class service to its visitors. Recruitment and training of new volunteers takes place between February and August each year. 

Below is a synopsis of the roles on offer. If any of the volunteering roles are of interest, please download the full job description and complete our Volunteer Application Form and send to the Volunteer Coordinator.

Volunteer Room Steward

Meet and greet our visitors and help them get more enjoyment out of their visit by chatting to them about Harewood House, its contents, past occupants both above and below stairs and provide information on other areas of Harewood and forthcoming events.

Volunteer Bird Keeper

Assist the Bird Garden Keepers with the preparation of feed, feed rounds and maintenance of aviaries.

Volunteer Bird Garden Ranger

Provide visitors to the Bird Garden non-specialist information and explain to them the role of the Bird Garden and the conservation.

Patrol the Bird Garden on a regular basis, acting as a physical security presence to ensure the safety and welfare of both the visitors and animals.

Volunteer Garden Assistant

Assist the Gardens team with the general maintenance of the various areas of the Gardens.

Where possible, we try to ensure you are able to help within those areas that you most enjoy – Parterre; woodland garden; walled garden and glasshouses; Himalayan garden or Lakeside and Bird Garden area.

Volunteer Learning Assistant

Help our Learning team deliver school visits, craft activities, workshops and events.

Volunteer Shuttle Driver

Driving visitors between designated destinations within the park, particularly those using public transport. Talking to visitors, promoting the various areas of Harewood and current and future Events. Assisting the outdoor staff by around the park, keeping in touch via a 2-way radio.

Volunteer Bookshop Assistant

To oversee the daily operation of our Second Hand Bookshop which includes welcoming our visitors and providing information about the Trust & future events.

All Books are donated and the proceeds go towards delivering our charitable educational aims.
